Code4LibBC Day 2: Moving forward with Code4libBC Breakout Notes

Notes from the breakout session discussing the Code4libBC event itself

  • how to have the intermediary discussions
  • how to get people to know enough about each side in order to have good conversation
  • the gathering is very diverse; the more diversity, the more we all learn
  • communications is not easy, so it’s a good opportunity
  • this year has a lot of archivists attending
  • the name has good/bad perceptions cause people to come in and push others away
  • diversity in terms of location, type of organization, responsibility
  • a single track vs. multi track where only choose what you think might be interested in
  • what do people want to get from this?
  • make it more unconference and less structure
  • have enough rooms for breakouts, enough space
  • how to continue human connections: email list? twitter list? wiki contact page?
  • consider hosting elsewhere? surrey? ufv? uvic?
  • encourage people to include glossary, explain abbreviations
  • description of how it works on wiki page
